Our beautiful farm near the mountain village of Serra is over 100 years old. We are slowly regenerating the orange and olive groves back to their former splendor. We've planted lemon and cherry trees, tended the grafted grapefruit, and started clearing away the blackberries and finding all the hidden grapevines.
Each month a new blossom turns into an abundance of fruit from figs to plums, grapes, and pomegranates.
Once a self-sustaining farm for a family, all their hard work has been paid forward and we are gratefully putting in the extra work to reactivate the farm.
The most recent projects include building a new animals co-living house, and starting new vegetable gardens.
Fully enclosed by an old stone wall and surrounded by native cork and pine trees, the terraced farm sits inside a beautiful, quite and tranquil space.
Once we have regenerated the 100 olive trees, Olive oil from the grove will be on offer, but in the mean time they provide a beautiful place to rest and explore.
The farm is the living lab, the sustainer, and educator. We welcome inquiries to run studio programs and camping retreats on the farm.
The star of the Quinta is the 150+ year old stone olive mill. Some years ago, this 400sqm structure would press and produce thousands of litres of local olive oil. Nowadays, it sits strong but weathered at the end of our country lane.
We have grand plans for this beautiful piece of history. Imagine a cellar door with local organic produce, wines and farm produce. Imagine beautiful rooms for rest, night sky pondering from our observatory and relaxing reads in the library...
Once we have regenerated the olive trees, olive oil from the grove will be on offer, and include a community space for relaxing and creating.
In late 2017, we will announce the restoration plans and welcome support through a global Kickstarter for the project.
We also welcome pre-Kickstarter support. Please reach out if you want to be involved in this great project,
150 years of stone is the base of our sprawling series of houses and old olive mill. Guests are treated to a warm stay in our restored wooden guest house. The rooms are spacious and light filled, some overlooking the olive groves and a view of the sunrise over the hills.
The mill will eventually be transformed into a gathering space that showcases the regional wine, cheese and fruit. Beautiful self contained rooms will take the place of the former olive mill stalls.
Food is part of our philosophy for making change. Organic, fresh, locally produced, lovely prepared, shared and celebrated.
Our vegetable-centric approach to nourishment inspires creative, colourful and delicious shared meals for all.
Our custom built outdoor BBQ and pizza oven use traditional building techniques and run on scavenged wood from the grove. A marble prep table was found buried on the property and restored to use for this outdoor kitchen.
A long front area serves as communal outdoor dining space, along with various pockets for quiet meals by yourself, as you wish. Currently stone, we will be building out a large patio next to a natural swimming pool. The dining area looks out over the olive grove, a serene place to watch the sky turn pink as it sets.
The first thing we did was to establish a thriving organic vegetable garden, which thanks to the fertile soils have been providing an abundance of fresh seasonal produce to our visitors and helpers.
We plan on expanding the gardens based on a hybrid of farming techniques drawing inspiration from permaculture, biodynamics and traditional local agriculture.
The garden not only provides the beautiful food, but also provides for an excellent part of our learning lab, sharing all sorts of fascinating living princibles and practcies for design and creative inspiration.

The Quinta is 15 minutes drive from the historical town of Tomar, in Central Portugal. Tomar is famous for the Knights Templar, who built an incredible monastery and castle atop of one of the mountains overlooking the town. It's quite the architectural feat and is only a few hundred years old.
Tomar has a beautiful center which a river runs through, making this historic town look like an extremely small Venice.
There are weekly farmers markets and many incredible restaurants to enjoy.
Tomar is 2 hours by train and 1.5 hours drive from Lisbon, so its very easy to reach.
The Quinta is located 1.5 hours drive from the thriving city of Lisbon. It takes just 2 hours on a scenic train ride to get from the central Orient station to the town of Tomar.
During the residencies, we will also offer field trips around Portugal, either self guided or small groups. There are many small towns, ocean front areas, and adventures to be had.
A short 35min train ride from Lisbon is the town of Cascais, perfect for exploration on your way in or out of Lisbon. Wander along the beautiful streets, check out the Boca de Inferno (Hell's Mouth) cliff formations, cycle along the ocean pathways and check out the local restaurants.
