INTERNSHIPS AND VOLUNTEERING

The CO Project Farm is an emerging creative and cultural space for educative and personal project development experiences around focused around sustainable living. Set in the countryside and focusing on the best sustainable design and small scale permaculture/organic farming techniques, we offer a unique Brain Spa concept. The project is connected to the UnSchool, a global experimental knowledge lab set up to advanced leadership in sustainability and the circular economy.

We have many people wanting to volunteer, and we are always trying to find new mutually beneficial ways to welcome people to the farm in different capacities.

Our minimum stay for a volunteer role is 2 weeks and accept people up to 4 weeks at a time. We also offer deeper levels of engagement with our longer term internships for a 3 month period. All volunteer roles offer are on an exchange of 4-8 hours work per day in exchange for all your on-farm expenses covered including lodging and food.

 

on-farm volunteering ACTIVITIES

  • You must be able to commit to a minimum of 2 weeks on the farm and be willing to contribute min 4 and max 8 hours per day

  • Weeding and new planting in the organic vegetable garden and food forest

  • Animal care and cleaning the animal houses

  • Caring for trees such as pruning, mulching and watering

  • Building garden beds, trellises and supports

  • Moving soil and other organic matter through compost

  • Helping set up and run logistics during programs

  • Supporting the farm manager with on-farm tasks during the program

  • Working with the animals

  • Transforming food products intro preserves and fermentation

  • Building, making, arranging things around the farm

  • Light cleaning and facility care duties

  • Supporting in the hosting of guests

  • Collaborative cooking

Skills Required

  • Organised and motivated

  • Shows strong initiative and can do attitude

  • Good team player

  • Prepared to do physical work

  • Cooking/cleaning/communication skills

  • Organic and permaculture farm knowledge an added advantage!

  • Ability to get yourself to the farm and to manage your time well

LONGER TERM INTERNSHIPS

  • This is a longer term role to allow for immersion and deeper personal skill development. In exchange for your time we offer all room ad board and a host of other value exchange offerings.

  • Caretaking for the animals on a daily basis, i.e. feeding/watering, cleaning of animal houses, etc. This requires a scheduled daily commitment, in the morning and in the evening of each day.

  • Oversee and perform facilities’ daily maintenance, making sure all common and private spaces are clean and ready to be used.

  • Working with cleaners to ensure the property is ready for guests and visitors.

  • Hosting site visits, farm experiences and community programs.

  • Supporting on-farm programs and activities.

  • Contributing to gardening, weeding, planting and plant care under the supervision of the Agricultural Manager.

  • Transformation of farm produce into fermented, preserved and long shelf-life products. We have a fermentation lab!

  • Supporting the capture and sharing of social media material for CO Project promotion.

For our longer term internships we offer access to online learning programs from the UnSchool, participation in on-farm programs, practice is facilitating and further professional and personal development opportunities. We are committed to ensuring we offer an equitable exchange that is mutely beneficial and rewarding.

In order to volunteer for us you must have the appropriate rights to be in Portugal for the time-frame.

We are currently accepting applications for short term (2-4 weeks) and for Dec 2019, and longer term volunteers from Mid January, 2020 onwards.

 

LIVE IN CARE TAKER FARM SABBATICAL/INTERNSHIP

Have you ever dreamed of living on a farm, learning the rhythm of a natural system and supporting the growth of a natural system? We have a longer term internship for a live in farm care taker as a mutual exchange internship. Based on the seasons, we have a 3-6 month opportunity for someone to come and be a central part of the daily animal and farm routine.
